CLASS OF 2004
The top college sophomores in the
nation. (Underclassmen are not included)
1.ROY WILLIAMS - WR - Texas
If he can stay healthy, Williams
has the size (6'5) to go with speed (4.4) and leaping ability to become
a Randy Moss like factor at WR.
2.MARCUS HOUSTON - RB - Colorado
A major talent who reminds many
of Eric Dickerson. A tall, angular runner who has a great burst, expect
Houston to be right at the top of his class.
3.KWAME HARRIS - OL - Stanford
This guy could be dominant. He's
huge and powerful and when he finally gets his chance with the Cardinal,
expect him to make the most out of it.
4.TRAVIS JOHNSON - DE - Florida
State
Johnson could be the one to continue
the Seminole tradition at Defensive End. He has the ability to wreak havoc
on opposing QBs.
5.CHARLIE ROGERS - WR - Michigan
State
He's as good of a prospect if
not better than Roy Williams. He just hasn't gotten to play yet. His 6'4
frame and electrifying 4.33 speed are enough to make NFL teams drool.
6.BRYANT McFADDEN - CB - Florida
State
The Semionle tradition at CB isn't
too shabby either. McFadden has the size and cover abililty to become the
next Florida State corner in the pros.
7.MICHAEL MUNOZ - OL - Tennessee
Everyone talks about his bloodlines
but it will be his 6'7 290 lb frame and great feet that gets him noticed.
8.BROCK BERLIN - QB - Florida
The top High School player in
the nation but Berlin could become a Drew Brees type guy when it comes
to the draft. He's not real big and his arm's not real strong.
9.WILLIS McGAHEE - RB - Miami
A big back who reminds everyone
who sees him play of former Hurricane Eddgerrin James. At 6'1, McGahee
still has the speed to turn the corner.
10.DARRELL LEE - LB - Florida
Lee is a monster athlete with
great pass rush skills. It's still early but his athletic abilities are
similar to former Gator Jevon Kearse.
11.DJ WILLIAMS - FB - Miami
Played Fullback as a Freshman
but is wisely moving back to Linebacker where he could develop into a top
three pick.
12.BJ JOHNSON - WR - Texas
Actually was ranked higher than
Williams coming out of High School. Johnson should form a super combo with
Williams and fellow sophomore Sloan Thomas.
13.TERELLE SUGGS - DE - Arizona
State
A highly recruited Tight End who
had an awesome season at Defensive End for the Sun Devils. Suggs is an
outstanding athlete.
14.TRAVIS HARRIS - LB - Florida
Harris and Darrell Lee coming
at you is a scary thought. That's what Gator opponents will be up against.
Harris (6'3, 225) plays sideline to sideline.
15.SAM MALDONADO - RB - Ohio State
A big bruising back who is the
Buckeyes hope can develop into their first star in the backfield since
Eddie George.
16.ALBERT MEANS - DT - Memphis
Incredible talent, now he has
to produce. Means (6'6, 310) is a huge gap plugger who could become a major
force.
17.CHRIS McKELVY - OL - Penn State
Played well as a Freshman. McKelvy
is a tough, strong blue collar blocker. He is the kind of player that epitimizes
the Big Ten.
18.GREG JONES - RB - Florida State
He's getting his chance this year
and could breakout. He is a big, powerful back and just what the Seminoles
have been lacking.
19.CASEY CLAUSEN - QB - Tennessee
The Peyton Manning comparisons
are overblown but Clausen does have the size and the arm to be the next
great Vols QB.
20.JOHNNIE MORANT - WR - Syracuse
When he gets into the lineup,
expect Morant to be big time. His 6'5 bodybuilder frame and 4.5 speed makes
him a tough matchup for any defensive back.
21.CHRIS PERRY - RB - Michigan
Spelled the A-Train as a Freshman
but now will get most of the carries but will have to fend off incoming
hot-shot Frosh Kelly Baraka.
22.STU SCHWEIGERT - S - Purdue
He had a great Freshman season.
A solid, steady peformer with great football smarts.
23.DUSTIN PICCIOTI - FB - Pittsburgh
A huge, tough runner with surprisingly
good speed. Piccioti is so tough to bring down. He also has great hands
and has the size and strength to become a great blocker.
24.JEFF SMOKER - QB - Michigan
State
Played well as a freshman and
has the size and the intangible qualities to become a great QB for the
Spartans.
25.TYSON THOMPSON - RB - Texas
Christian
LaDainian Tomlinson's heir is
a 6'2, 200Lb back who combines that great size with a great burst. The
Horned Frog running game shouldn't miss a beat.
26.SHANNON SNELL - OL - Florida
A huge (6'6, 320) lineman who
is the perfect guy to protect Brock Berlin's blindside in Steve Spurrier's
pass oriented offense.
27.AMON GORDON - LB - Stanford
A huge LB who looks a lot like
Levon Kirkland. May switch to DE but no matter where he lines up, teams
will have to watch out for him.
28.ANTWAAN ODOM - DE - Alabama
Odom has great size and athletic
ability. He could move up this list and become a big time prospect with
the Tide.
29.MAC TYLER - DT - Alabama
Teams with Odom to form half of
a great line. At 6'6 and 325 lbs, Tyler is going to a difficult guy to
push out of the middle.
30.TAB PERRY - WR - UCLA
Expect Tab Perry to step it up
for Freddie Mitchell this year and then breakout when Brian Poli-Dixon
leaves. At 6'3, 220, Perry is a nice target.
31.OJ OWENS - DB - Tennessee
Whether he plays Safety or Corner,
Owens has the quickness and athleticism to become a great player for Tennessee.
32.JOVAN WITHERSPOON - WR - Indiana
A transfer from Notre Dame whose
6'5 frame should get a warm welcome in Hoosier land. Too bad Antwaan Randle-El
only gets him for one year.
